2009 Gotta Go Festival Lineup Announced
May 26, 2009
The second annual Gotta Go Festival at The Guild announces a variety of music, comedy, film and theatre presentations for its summer lineup in 2009. Some events are one night only while others have extended runs throughout the festival period between July-September.
The Festival kicks off on July 11th with Island Standup Comedy, back for their 3rd summer season, with well-known comedian Francois Webber anchoring the troupe. This show runs 4 Saturday nights during July & August and is sure to tickle your funny bone.
Beginning July 12th, and every Sunday until August 30, “With Love From Patsy” will be presented by One Ear Up Productions. The musical concert highlights some of Patsy Cline’s best known tunes, performed by Marlane and Virginia O’Brien, two of Canada’s best known interpreters of Cline’s music.
The PEI International Film Festival is back at The Guild for 2009 and being presented within the Gotta Go Festival during July 17-19. “The Festival of Film at the edge of the world!” brings the Guild’s silver screen to life, presenting indie films from around the globe, including but not limited to Spain, France, United States, Germany, Norway, Canada and New Zealand. Individual show tickets and weekend passes will be available.
Rockin’ The Guild on their only PEI stop during their national tour, Sisters Euclid turns it up a notch on Tuesday, July 21st. Canadian guitar virtuoso Kevin Breit will be featured during this bluesy-rock theatre-style concert. A must-see for any blues fans.
“Parlour Swing” brings yet another musical genre to the theatre on July 24 & August 29. Juno-nominated Island artist Teresa Doyle hosts an evening cabaret with musical friends presenting classic tunes from Swing and Latin songbooks, as well as original works from Teresa’s latest album, Late Night Parlour. Don’t miss this opportunity to kick back and ‘groove with the tunes’ during her summer shows.
Another one-night only event is “The Sarah Burnell Band” on August 5th. Canadian Folk Music award winner, Sarah Burnell, heads up this dynamic group of Ontario musicians as they showcase their Celtic and world music stylings. This is a great family concert opportunity that will have you clapping and tapping all at once!
“Lorne of Green Gables” is presented by entertainer extraordinaire, Lorne Elliott. Beginning August 6 and continuing for a 5-date run throughout the month, this show is a selection of favourite songs and monologues woven into Lorne’s unique, mayhem, standup comedy style. This is his third year at The Guild and second with the Festival.
A brand new work, “A Peek At Martha’s Box” is an adaptation from the theatrical production of ‘Martha’s Box’. While taking stock in her storage space, Martha contemplates what brought her to where she now is in life. Marlene Handrahan (Mamma Mia, Charlottetown Festival, writer) & Brad Davidge (Halifax singer/songwriter) present a musical cabaret that ponders life’s lessons and will leave audiences considering what influences and affects them in their own life. The show includes provocative content and is licensed.
Freedom 55 Financial, a Division of London Life, is pleased to be returning as the title festival sponsor for the second successive year. Credit Union Central has come on board as show sponsor for two festival presentations, ‘Parlour Swing’ and ‘A Peek at Martha’s Box’.
Additional event bookings outside of the Gotta Go Festival, including Gallery @ The Guild exhibitions, will be announced throughout the summer period.
