Island Quilts on Display
September 08, 2009

“Island Quilts” is an exhibition of select handmade quilts currently on display at The Guild until Saturday, September 12th at 2pm.

The 13 quilts on display are created by members of the Kindred Spirits Quilt Guild, with one exception. One quilt has been passed down the generations since 1883 and is proudly displayed amongst the variety of traditional and not-so-traditional artworks.

Some products have delicate beadwork, others have intricate stitching or appliqués, some are large, others are small and all are a pleasure to admire.

“The stories behind the creation of the quilts are as interesting as the quilts themselves”, says Cate Proctor, executive director of The Guild and co-curator of the show. “One is based on an “Anne of Green Gables” novel while another was depicted in a dream, and so on.”

“We hope to mount this type of exhibition annually as there is a multitude of quilting talent and variety of patterns (some self-created) to draw the exhibit from”.

Some quilts are for sale while others are not and sales are brisk, to date.

There is no charge to visit the Gallery @ The Guild, although donations are always welcome. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 12noon-5pm.

Please note: the Gallery will only be open between 12noon-2pm on the last day of this exhibit, Saturday, September 12th.

I just wanted to let you know how terrific the Mitten Time Revue was last night. Really, one of the best shows of its type I've seen on PEI. - D. Stewart, December 2008
