Stan Carew and “The Magpies” Coming To The Guild
September 16, 2009

Stan Carew Popular CBC host, Stan Carew and his band “The Magpies” are coming to The Guild for an afternoon performance on Sunday, October 18th.

Stan Carew is the well known host of “Weekend Morning”, the highest rated program on the entire CBC network, broadcast each weekend on CBC Radio One.  He has been a musician/actor for more than 30 years for radio, television and various film projects.  But there’s another side to Stan that’s only now being revealed.

For almost as long as he’s been in broadcasting, Stan has been writing songs, quietly and strictly for his own amusement. A year ago he decided to share his songs with the world, so he put together a band of long-time musical friends and embarked on a concert tour to raise funds for theatres around the Maritimes, of which The Guild is included. The folks who attended came because they were fans of Weekend Mornings, but they went away fans of Stan Carew’s music.
Stan Carew and the Magpies will take you on a journey through half a century of popular music with stops along the way at pop, folk, blues, country and swing. Although the original songs are fresh and new, they sound familiar, and you may also hear the likes of a Rolling Stones or Buck Owens cover.

The Magpies consists of Eric Jones, John Sayre, Steve Brown and Richard King. They play with an unbridled energy and enthusiasm that audiences recognize and relate to.
Opening the show is up-and-comer PEI musician, singer/songwriter, Matt Gill, with his own brand of pop/folk music. Matt unofficially released his first CD in 2009 and will bring some of his original music from this recording to the stage.

The show begins at 3pm with theatre doors opening at 2:30pm. Tickets are $16 each and available at The Guild’s box office during regular box office hours, Tuesday-Saturday, 12noon-5pm and one hour prior to the show.

For more information call the box office at 902-620-3333.

I had myself a great time and it was a great experience. I wish I could have met everyone before the show because during the attendance was so great that I never then found the time to do so. That is a great event. - David Olivier, Photographer, Arts Mixer Exhibitor Jan 09
