Skydiggers At The Guild Dec 12
November 16, 2009
Charlottetown – In the words of Sarah Harmer, "The Skydiggers are part of the interlocking brick of sound and style that is the foundation of Canada's independent musical landscape."
Juno award winners, The Skydiggers, are the oft-forgotten — but always beloved — roots-rock fivesome who recently celebrated 20 years as a band with the release of a retrospective album, “The Truth About Us”.
Skydigger’s members Andy Maize and Andrew Cash are bringing this album and the band’s music to the Guild stage on Saturday, December 12th with opening act, Olympic Symphonia.
The Skydiggers were originally formed as an acoustic duo by founding member Josh Finlayson and Andy Maize in 1988. They quickly attracted attention with their strong melodic vocal harmonies. With the additions of songwriter Peter Cash, drummer Wayne Stokes, and bassist Ron Macey, the group rapidly became darlings of the Toronto club scene.
They released their self-titled debut LP in 1990 for which the record garnered two charting singles "Monday Morning" and "I Will Give You Everything”. In 1992 critically acclaimed “Restless” spawned their biggest hit single "A Penny More" and is considered by many fans and critics as the high watermark of the band's recording career.
The band has remained true to its Gram Parsons roots-rock and have released several albums over the course of the '90's all the while maintaining a small but steady cult following.
Tickets are $20 and available at The Guild box office. The show starts at 8pm with doors to the theatre opening at 7:30pm for general seating. This is a licensed, 19+ event.
