A "Cat", Chocolate & Jill Barber
January 20, 2010

Charlottetown – The premiere Charlottetown showing of Swingin’ A Cat will be presented on Saturday, February 13 at The Guild. All ticket holders will have a chance to win tickets to see Jill Barber perform February 14 with the PEI Symphony Orchestra.

The cabaret event at The Guild features Catherine Howatt-Dickson as “Cat” as a sultry jazz and blues lounge singer who has just been dumped by her husband and takes out her emotions and state of mind in her songs as she leads the audience through her story of heartbreak & renewal.

Howatt-Dickson unleashes her own well-crafted songwriting skill with tunes like Revelations of Love, Black Crow and Tom Cat. She also performs well known renditions from Louis Armstrong, Gene MacLellan, John Prine and Christine Lavine while guests enjoy a special menu from The Delta, including a tempting chocolate fountain.

The band that accompany the soulful and wonderfully enticing melodies include Dr. Jim Dickson (guitar), Reg Ballagh (drums), Todd MacLean (sax) and Jon Rehder (bass).

One lucky ticket holder at Swingin’ A Cat will win two tickets to see ECMA winner and Juno nominee, Jill Barber, perform with the PEI Symphony Orchestra the next day, Feburary 14th at 2:30 at Confederation Centre of the Arts. The draw will be made the evening of February 13th at The Guild.

Tickets to Swingin’ A Cat are available at The Guild’s box office for $40 each. The show begins at 8pm with theatre doors opening at 7:30 for cabaret seating (19+). Ticket sales are brisk for this event.

I decided on the spur of the moment to come to The Guild. It was a great experience - all performers. - March 2010
